Directory Search Tips

Basic Searching

Use the drop-down menus one by one to choose the editorial services, specializations, and skills you need.

Note: You must click “Search” after each selection.

Tip: Start with your most basic need (for example, “Editing Services Offered”), click “Search,” and review the results. If needed, narrow your results by selecting additional criteria or using the keyword search.

Use the keyword search box (“Search for…”) to specify skills and subjects not covered by the drop-down menus.

For example, use it for languages (“French,” “Arabic,” etc.) or specific terms (“Baroque,” “industrial design,” etc.).

Search Results

After you click “Search,” a list of matching AAE members will appear as business cards.

Note: Results appear in random order and include editors who meet all of your selected search criteria.

Clicking a member’s business card brings you to their directory profile page, where you can read more about them.

Note: Terms you selected in the drop-down menus may not appear verbatim on a member’s profile page, even though the member matches that criteria.

Refine or Expand Your Search

If you get very few results or “No matches for search,” widen your search by:

  • unchecking one or more selected drop-down criteria

  • trying different keywords—or no keywords at all (keywords are optional)

Narrow your search by selecting additional criteria or adding keywords.

Contact an AAE Member

To contact a member, click “Send a Message” below their name on their profile page (if messaging is enabled).

When sending a message, provide the freelancer with details about your project (e.g., the topic, the type of editing or related service you are looking for, and your timeline).

Preview your email and click “send.” A verification link will be emailed to you; click the link in that email to deliver your message.
